The family of NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson is mourning a terrible loss. According to accounts, his mother-in-law Terry Janway, father-in-law Jack Janway, and 11-year-old nephew Dalton were killed in a shooting at their Oklahoma home.
According to a report from the Muskogee Police Department, a call to 911 dispatch was made on Monday at 9:05 p.m. Before hanging up, a female voice on the other end of the line announced that there was a disturbance and referenced someone having a gun.
When the police arrived, they found a person laying in the hallway and learned that the person had passed away. The police heard a second gunshot on the opposite side of the house shortly after they arrived at the scene.
Officers arrived at the residence, searched it thoroughly, and found two more dead, bringing the total number of fatalities to three. Jack, 69, Terry, 68, and their 11-year-old grandson Dalton were the three people who died.
Jack and Terry are Jimmie’s wife, Chandra Janway’s parents, while Dalton is the couple’s nephew.
The incident is being looked into as a murder-suicide, according to officials.
The police have established that Terry is a suspect, but their understanding of her motivation is still sketchy at this time. Also unknown is who made the police call—Terry or someone else. The Muskogee Police Department’s PIO, Lynn Hamlin, told the reporters, “Yes, I’m able to confirm that is correct information.”
After this tragedy, Legacy Motor Club announced that Jimmie would not be racing the following weekend. “Legacy Motor Club has elected to withdraw the No. 84 Carvana Chevrolet from this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series event in Chicago,” the club wrote in a statement on Twitter.
“The Johnson family has asked for privacy at this time and no further statements will be made,” it clarified.
It’s incredibly heartbreaking how everything has turned out. Jimmie Johnson, his wife, and their loved one are in our thoughts and prayers as they deal with this terrible event.
Keep the family in your thoughts.
